Passionate Advocate for Seniors and Caregivers

Before founding OrgaNice, I spent ten years in the senior living industry, in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors.  In this time, I honed my skills working with seniors and their families as a neutral, trusted advisor.

In 2013, I graduated from Bethel University with a Masters in Gerontology (the study of aging). Seeing the emotional toll that dementia places on caregivers through my work, I focused my thesis on the extended grieving process of dementia caregivers.  This experience gave me a unique understanding of the difficulties seniors face as they age, as well as the impact these challenges have on their loved ones.

If you need a kind, knowledgeable person to help optimize space for independence, I am ready to help!  I specialize in creating a safe environment for seniors who would like to stay in their homes as long as possible.

Staying safe and independent at home is about more than organizing - it is a process of designing and customizing a space to take advantage of existing abilities. It is also an opportunity to adjust and modify one's lifestyle and physical environment as needs change.  This process can be as simple as identifying furniture that increases the risk of falls, or can involve a much more concentrated effort to pare down belongings and reduce clutter for safety.  Regardless of the source of the need for reorganizing, this can be an emotional process and needs to be handled with sensitivity and care.

Every family and every situation is different, so my process will be tailored to your family's needs.  With each family, I will design a holistic plan that will help you stay independent and will work with you to execute it over time.

This is what the process would look like:

  • Initial Consultation: I will meet you in your home to discuss your current situation, goals for the future, and decide what support will most benefit you.  We will discuss the layout of your home, your belongings (and whether paring down what you have is part of your plan) and discuss environmental changes that will benefit you.  We will also discuss your vision and expectations for our partnership moving forward.
  • Executing the Independence Plan:  In one visit or multiple smaller visits, we will work together to optimize your environment and set you up for success.  This could be organizing, sorting, moving and rearranging belongings, creating systems to trigger the memory or any other combination of tools to help you succeed.
  • Maintenance:  I will work with you and your loved ones to develop a maintenance plan that you will use to stay independent as long as possible.  If follow up visits are needed, we will schedule them.

If the time comes when a move to a more supportive environment is necessary, I am happy to serve as a resource for you and your family.  I am well-versed on the questions to ask and the preparations to be made in order to ensure the move is as smooth as possible.

Aging can feel like a process of losing control.  I want to be the person who helps you control what you can.
